And the winner is...

Three cheers for Waddesdon School Year 12s! Following last week’s final at Buckinghamshire Council Offices in Aylesbury, the group have made history by winning our inaugural Green Schools Competition – the first of its kind in the county.

Organised by Bucks Skills Hub and Buckinghamshire Council, students from five local schools worked alongside Lunaz and the Digital Manufacturing Centre (DMC) based at Silverstone to innovate a green solution to a problem in their school or community.

The project was split into three parts: an initial workshop introduced the challenge and allowed the teams to outline their proposal for a green solution; the shortlisted teams then visited the businesses to understand more about them and routes in, presentation refinement and final preparation; and the last round saw the teams present their ideas to a prestigious Dragons Den-style judging panel, followed by a Q&A.

“All of the finalists from John Colet School, Buckingham School, The Grange School and Waddesdon School presented innovative and actionable solutions, with the school and community in mind,” said Marina Jackson, Bucks Skills Hub Lead, “they were all professional and did a great job – very good training for their future careers.”

What's next? Well, the winning team from Waddesdon School will continue working with our business partners to develop their idea into a proof of concept.

“We can’t wait to see how the project moves forward!” said Marina. “Our thanks to all of those schools who bravely took part and did such a good job, as well as our thanks and appreciation to Buckinghamshire Council, Lunaz and DMC for their time, input and support of the students.”
