Bucks Skills Show 2023

Buckinghamshire’s biggest and most interactive careers event was held on 8th and 9th March 2023, with career seekers of all ages attending an evening event on 8th March.

Bucks Skills Show has been wowing crowds and inspiring people to step towards their dream career for years.

This year we had…

This Year's Speakers

4-4.20pm - Dan Roberts – Videographer

Dan Roberts is an editor of TV dramas. Credits include: Lockwood & Co.; Andor; Peaky Blinders (BAFTA nomination); The Third Day (Royal Television Society nomination); Patrick Melrose; His Dark Materials.

4.20-4.40pm - Michael Merrit - SkyPorts

Michael leads on strategy & operations at Skyports, focusing on developing and scaling the company’s drone services networks across the healthcare, offshore and logistics sectors.

4.40-5pm - Claire Wardle - NHS

Claire’s background is as an Adult nurse working in London and then Oxfordshire for a number of years. She then moved into Education and now works in Health Education England as part of their South East Nursing and Midwifery team.

5-5.20pm - Matthew Cappell and Sarah Harding - Buckinghamshire College Group

Matthew is passionate about construction and education has worked in the FE sector for the last 13 years in various roles. He trained as a carpenter in a FE college and was inspired to get into education by the great tutor he had. In 2022 he saw the opportunity to become the Director of Construction, Technologies and Apprenticeships at the Bucks College Group and joined the college in July 2022.

5.20-5.40pm - Harin Sellahewa - Digital

Professor Harin Sellahewa holds a BSc in Information Systems and a DPhil in Computing, both from The University of Buckingham. Harin’s research interests are in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Robotics. He has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal/conference papers and a book chapter. He has successfully supervised/co-supervised over a dozen PhD projects and continues to supervise a number of PhD projects in AI, Biometrics, Digital Health, and Cyber Security.

Harin is a passionate promotor of STEM; he has spoken at schools, science forums and public engagement events; organised and participated in several STEM activities; and launched a campaign to increase diversity in Computing.

5.40-6pm - Jenny Caprio and Nick Graham - Legal Services at Buckinghamshire Council

Nick Graham is a solicitor and Director of Legal & Democratic Services at Buckinghamshire Council.  He has many years of experience in practising law in the private and public sector.  He also acts as a Coroner undertaking investigations and inquests in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire

Jenny Caprio qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive via the apprenticeship route.  As a Head of Legal Services at Buckinghamshire Council and Deputy Monitoring Officer for the Council, Jenny manages the non-contentious areas of the legal business including; property, planning, contracts and procurement as well as overseeing standards and governance. 

6-7pm - Lilia Frunzo, Darielle, Aaron Davis and Paddy Patterson - Construction

Darielle is Head of Engagement and Compliance at Align JV. Her team works with key stakeholders, including local authorities, U&A beneficiaries and community/ residents groups, to build relationships, trust and understanding of the HS2 project. This involves delivering public events, managing responses to complaints and enquiries, and ensuring compliance with over 400 undertakings and assurances. She collaborates across the project with other teams such as Environment, Consents, Production, Traffic so that her team is able to explain the programme and keep stakeholders informed on community related issues.

7-7.20pm - Yasmin Chowdhary - CISCO

Yasmin Chowdhary has been at Cisco for over 5 years, spearheading the Cisco Apprenticeship Program since joining. She currently oversees the sales side of the apprenticeship program, whether this be technical sales or non-technical sales. Yasmin is very passionate about the development of people in early in career which is why the apprenticeship has been a perfect fit.

7.20-8pm - Furniture Makers - Furnishing Careers

From furniture designer to maker and upholsterer, the UK’s thriving furnishing industry has a wide range of job roles and exciting career opportunities. Join leaders from the trade at this can't miss talk to find out about the rich and varied career options available and the skills needed to get a job. You will also hear from young designers and makers, embarking on their careers, who will share their top tips on entering the industry.
